If you are granted the opportunity to enroll in the Massachusetts 24D program, your case will be continued for no more than 24 months (two years). In addition, you will be placed on probation for the entire time. One of the stipulations of being allowed to enroll in the 24D program is that you successfully complete an approved driver alcohol education program.
Those who are eligible for the first offenders program in Massachusetts must complete an approved and certified driver alcohol education program. These programs are offered at various locations throughout the state and costs approximately $600. Once enrolled in the program, you are eligible to be considered for a hardship license, but if you fail to attend the program and meet all of its requirements your hardship license can be immediately revoked.
One benefit of enrolling in the Massachusetts 24D program is that the typical one-year OUI (also referred to as DUI) license suspension period may be reduced to 45 to 90 days. Drivers may also obtain a hardship license during the suspension period. This may allow them to travel to and from work, medical appointments, and program-related appointments.
Another major benefit of the 24D program is that it replaces incarceration and other legal penalties with treatment and alcohol education. Its objective is to keep Massachusetts roads safe, reduce alcohol-related highway accidents and fatalities, and help drunk drivers take responsibility for their previous drinking and driving behaviors. The Worcester OUI attorneys at Murphy & Rudolf, LLP can answer your questions and provide legal advice throughout the process.
